Stephanie Carlton

Stephanie, an Australian, who moved to the UK in 2003, has lived in various places until settling in Norfolk. Stephanie has a BA Hons in painting and printmaking from Australia and has worked within arts conservation for many years, which feeds into her artwork in the use of materials and techniques such gold leaf and gilding, and reading the history of an object in its form and surface.

Her work in ceramics has built over the years and is a discipline she finds endlessly absorbing. It sits alongside her continued work in printmaking and mixed media collage, and the porcelain jewellery which is an extension of the two.

Stephanie works in a reduced palette, focusing on changes in light and contrast, with accents of colour. This minimal range allows her to explore the subtleties of light, something she has had to learn to appreciate in her time in the UK away from her native bright Australia.
