Lucy Gallwey

Lucy Gallwey is a Mixed Media Landscape Artist and Art Historian.
Her work evolves through close consideration of landscape contexts and images and addresses themes such as memory, presence, endurance and change.
When drawing, she mainly works outside, recording the landscape from life. She often brings images to the landscape, such as her life drawings, monoprints and appropriated imagery of historic landscape works. Her drawings and films can contain multiple image sometimes completely hidden under the imagery of the immediate landscape, so that the final work is an imbedded visual narrative of different landscapes, materials and ideas.
In her drawings for’ Art and Beyond Gallery’ she shows three images of a figure in motion, which she drew in a life drawing class. The final image ‘Turning in the Hills’ combines landscape imagery from the local Crewkerne landscape with the motion of a figure moving into or being transformed by the landscape.
