Babs Kirby

All my work is hand-built. I have recently developed a passion for totem poles. The blue/yellow/green totem was shown on The Great Pottery Throwdown on Channel 4 as an example of totem poles.
The red/yel
low/orange totem tells a story. They are available to view in my courtyard.
My small sculptures are inspired by the many dogs that walk by every day. They are Raku fired, a volatile unpredictable process that gives subtle, nuanced effect. I love the drama of Raku firing.
I’ve been making pieces for 20 years now and started out at Morley College in London. Since moving to Dorset, I’ve joined a small group, Upwey Ceramics, who meet weekly and exhibit annually. I also exhibit with Artwey and Art in Poundbury and Westcountry Potters and am delighted that Art and Beyond are now stocking my work.
